Creating a Halloween makeup look can sound daunting, but it is far from that. With our help, you can easily create the perfect Halloween makeup look to match your costume, or even just for fun! We have listed many tried-and-true products that we recommend, and you’re in luck because these options won’t break the bank.
Eye Shadow Palette
When it comes to Halloween makeup, a lot of looks are going to look great with color, especially if you want to match your outfit.
A colorful eyeshadow palette is always a good idea to have in your makeup stash, as no matter the season or event, it’ll get a lot of use! We like the BPERFECT Stacey Marie Carnival XL Pro Palette and NYX Ultimate Eyeshadow Palette as they are affordable but have a lot of different colors, which have great pigment, especially if you prime the eyes beforehand with a white eyeshadow primer or concealer, for that perfect, even base.
Face and Body Glitter Gel
If you’re anything like us, glitter is essential for almost any seasonal makeup look. It can make a simple look really pop. When it comes to glitter gels, they are the easiest to apply.
They don’t need to be adhered, and it only takes a few seconds to pop on. We love the CAI BEAUTY NYC Glitter, ColourPop Glitter Gels and the KARIZMA Holographic Iridescent Glitters. They also work great for the body and hair, which is super fun!
Face and Body Paint:
Face and body paint is the way forward if you’re trying to cover a large area, such as wanting to create a pale, vampire face, or maybe even painting your face green for your Shrek costume! These Wet n’ Wild Paint Pots and Mehron Makeup Face and Body Paints are both affordable and will be a lot more vibrant and pigmented in color instead of using a powder such as eyeshadow over a large area.
Also, they can be used on the body, so go ahead and turn those arm greens too! If you need multiple colors, you could also just get a palette with 20 different colors such as this UCANBE Athena Face Body Paint Palette.
Face Pigments (For eyeliner, eyeshadow, Cheeks, lips, facepaint, etc):
If you’re looking for products that have a major color payoff, a liquid pigment is the way to go. These Danessa Myricks Colorfix Cream Pigments are insanely pigmented and can be used all over the face. This product can be used for a variety of things such as eyeliner, eyeshadow, blush, and even lips! They also come in a large range of colors and are extremely easy to blend.
Liquid Eyeliner:
A liquid eyeliner is something most likely in your makeup collection already, and if it isn’t, we recommend one if your look is going to involve line details, such as the spider web eyeliner. Black liquid liner is great for details as it has a precise tip and your lines will be crisp. Stila Liquid Liner and KVD Tattoo Liner have been best-selling eyeliners for years because they’re easy to apply, provide a deep black color and don’t run all over the place. You could also try a colored liquid eyeliner for some extra fun!
Loose Glitter and Glue:
If you want some of your look to have a very sheen, almost highlight-like finish, then use a fine, loose glitter for that extra sparkle.
This NYX Face and Body Glitter is a great price, and a little goes a long way. You do need to pair loose glitter/pigment with adhesive though, but NYX actually makes a Makeup Glitter Primer that will be sure to keep that glitter in place.
Rhinestones:
Rhinestones upgrade a look instantly, whether it is Halloween or not. They’re affordable, pretty, and don’t require a steady hand. The Eye Body Face Gems Stickers and Canvalite Rhinestone Gems come with a lot to choose from and lots of colors. However, we do recommend sticking these down with eyelash glue (even the ones that come with adhesive) to ensure they last all night.
Primer:
A good primer is key for a Halloween makeup look that will last all night. The Elf Power Grip is specifically great for this because of its sticky texture, which gives it the ultimate gripping power. Any foundation, face paint, pigment, etc. will apply a lot smoother, and stay better throughout the day/night with a primer underneath.
Pencil Eyeliner:
Another item you probably already have in your collection is a pencil eyeliner. Whether it be black or a fun color, these are super helpful for Halloween looks as you can use them to draw a design, or make an outline to fill in. The NYX Epic Wear Color Sticks have lots of color options you could play with. The NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils are great as they are thick so you can make thick, bold lines very easily. You can create an easy skeleton look with a black and white one of these!
For Those Scary Looks
If you’re looking to scare some people and create a super spooky look this year, these supplies are a must. Fake blood is a given essential for realistic cuts, wounds, just overall gruesome looks.
You can buy it at many places, but this Stage Blood from Amazon and Liquid Fake Blood from Target. To create the skin of open fleshy wounds, liquid latex is your best friend. You can use it to adhere appliances to the skin or layer it with materials such as tissue to create textured effects like peeling or wounded skin.
We love the Mehron Makeup Liquid Latex for this as it comes in different shades and is easy to remove. Another option is using scar wax with a spatula like in this MEICOLY Scar Wax Kit.
Scar wax works by resembling skin so you can create cuts/ wounds, and as it is pliable yet firm, you can even add to your nose or chin for a broken nose or extended chin effect.
If you’re looking to try everything and see what works best, you can buy SFX Kits on Amazon such as this CHASPA Halloween SFX Makeup Kit which includes everything you need for those jaw dropping special effects.
